A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and using patience techniques to avoid yelling at family members. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments came out over the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. However, the promotional image for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
