Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
