Daughter of Ex- South African Leader Jacob Zuma Denies Terrorism Accusations as Court Case Starts
The child of previous South African Leader Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terrorism-related charges at the commencement of her court case in the port city of the city of Durban.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, 43, is being prosecuted over statements she published on online platforms several years back during deadly demonstrations in South Africa that came after the detention of her dad.
A seven-day period of anarchy in various areas of the country in July 2021, including looting and arson, left at least 300 individuals dead and resulted in damage worth an projected $2.8bn (2.2 billion pounds).
Zuma-Sambudla has been accused of fuelling this turmoil and faces allegations of provocation to commit terror acts and public violence.
Context of the Legal Matter
The demonstrations were focused in the regions of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal and were triggered by the ex-leader's arrest for disobeying a legal directive to give evidence at an investigation into accusations of impropriety while he was in power.
She has repeatedly refuted the allegations against her, with her legal representative previously calling the state's legal argument as insufficient.
She has also consistently stated the charges against her were an effort to settle political disputes with her parent after he established his own political party and ran against the ANC.

This was reinforced by the Zuma foundation, which stated the legal matter was an "misuse of authority" and a "coordinated attempt" of "political and family-related persecution" against the ex-leader and his family.
A small number of backers from her group, uMkhonto weSizwe, turned up outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her parent and other party leaders participated in the hearings inside.
The defendant's representatives has maintained that the evidence presented by the state is inadequate and fails to provide compelling grounds for a criminal finding.
