Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers Earn First Wins Following Recent Detentions

The Heat secured a decisive 146 to 114 win against the Grizzlies in their first basketball game since guard Terry Rozier was detained over alleged illegal sports betting.

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events
Addressing the detentions for the first time, league head Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.
"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."
Silver further mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the betting companies," he added.
"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.
"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.
"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an charge.
"Moreover 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Terry.
"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and investigating."
