Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
