UEFA Launches Formal Investigation Involving Chelsea's Pedro Neto After Incident Involving Paris St-Germain Youth Assistant.
European football's governing body has commenced a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger the Portuguese international following an incident where he shoved a young stadium attendant during a Champions League defeat by PSG.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, shoved the youngster during added time of Wednesday's knockout stage first leg in Paris – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – which caused him to fall off a chair.
It sparked a heated exchange involving both sets of players.
The governing body confirmed action has been taken against Neto on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" as per its disciplinary regulations.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will take a decision regarding this matter in due course," UEFA added in its statement.
Neto apologised for the incident attributing it to being caught up "by the heat of the moment" when he sought to regain possession of the match ball.
"This is out of character for me. Emotions were running high and I want to apologise. My shirt was given to him. I feel terrible about it - I owe him an apology," Neto told broadcasters.
"I have limited French, so teammate Vitinha intervened and told him that it was a momentary lapse.
"At the end he saw the funny side and I gave him my shirt apologising repeatedly. He realized the context of the incident and was content with the situation."
The London club host Paris St-Germain next Tuesday in the second leg, after a match against Newcastle at their home ground this weekend in the Premier League.
