Zverev Faces Felix Auger-Aliassime in ATP World Tour Finals Match

Introduction

The inherent challenges of group stage tennis often result in at this point of the ATP Finals fans frequently find themselves confused, searching around for a mathematical tool and striving to determine the brain-busting potential outcomes for advancement. Yet this evening's contest between Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime, mercifully, is simple. It’s a straight shootout: the victor secures a final four battle against Carlos Alcaraz at this championship finale; the unsuccessful competitor is eliminated.

Zverev is the favourite for this: the world No 3 is the player with greater achievements, has claimed the title at this competition twice before and leads their head-to-head with six victories against three defeats, winning both their previous matches on an enclosed hard court.

Yet … this type of playing field on which the Canadian has won most of his championships, he is full of confidence after his remarkable turnaround against Shelton on recently and he eliminated Zverev in the US Open third round in August. Furthermore, conditions are faster in the host city than at the US Open venue, which works even more in the Canadian's benefit.

If the German player is reserved, similar to his performance against the Italian, and Auger-Aliassime takes it to the European player with his stinging serves and bold strategy, there is a strong chance the 25-year-old Canadian – the former prodigy who was previously positioned ahead of the younger champions to succeed the Big Three – who earns the questionable privilege of facing the world No 1 the next day.

Play begins: at approximately 8:30 PM in Turin, 7.30pm GMT.
